There are three different clocks
When people talk about a “fresh listing,” they often combine three separate moments:
- Creation time. The seller submits the listing and its recorded age begins.
- Public visibility. Marketplace exposes the listing to buyers and searchable surfaces.
- Alert delivery. A notification or monitoring service detects the visible listing and sends it to the buyer.
The gap between these moments is why a listing can display an age that is older than the amount of time buyers have actually been able to see it.
Can a monitor see a pending listing?
No service reading visible Marketplace listings can detect something Marketplace has not made public to that surface. If the listing is pending, processing or otherwise hidden, there is nothing available for the monitor to capture yet.
Once the listing becomes visible, a manual refresh, saved-search notification or third-party monitor can encounter it. Any search interval and delivery time occurs after that visibility point.
What Deal Shark observed
In one Deal Shark seller test, a newly submitted listing became publicly visible approximately six minutes after submission. This is a single observation—not a universal Facebook review time. It illustrates why creation age and buyer-visible age can differ.
Why scan frequency does not prove listing age
A service that checks every minute is describing its search schedule. That number does not reveal when Marketplace made the listing visible or how old the listing will be when delivered.
Scan cadence can reduce delay after visibility. Creation-age verification answers a different and more useful question: how old is the listing itself right now?
What “Created” and “Alerted” mean
Deal Shark alerts show two timestamps:
- Created is the listing’s recorded creation time.
- Alerted is when Deal Shark delivered the message to Telegram.
The difference gives the creation age at alert. Deal Shark applies an under-15-minute gate at processing; listings aged 15 minutes or more do not enter the alert channel.
Why this matters to a reseller
A calculated margin is useful only while the listing remains obtainable. Seeing the creation age lets you judge whether it is worth opening before you spend time evaluating the price.
Does a fresh timestamp guarantee the item?
No. A fresh timestamp cannot control other buyers, seller preferences, pickup arrangements or whether the seller has already accepted an offer. It preserves information about the opportunity window; it does not guarantee a purchase.
The practical advantage is simpler: you can see the item, price and age, open the original listing and send a genuine message without first guessing whether the alert is stale.
Method note: Deal Shark’s explanations distinguish creation age, visibility and capture-to-Telegram time. Platform behaviour can vary by listing, account, location and Marketplace availability.
